Ontario County Jail
The L.R. Kimball team provided design and construction administration services for the new 159,585 square foot Ontario County Jail for the County of Ontario, NY. The Ontario County Jail is a 276-bed facility with support core components designed to accommodate future expansion up to 600 beds. The direct supervision facility is designed to maximize rehabilitative and educational opportunities for inmates including juvenile offenders. The facility was the first in New York to use the concept of indoor/outdoor exercise areas, providing inmates with year-round access to exercise adjacent to the housing unit. The concept also eliminates the need for a separate, central indoor exercise area. The facility was designed to support extensive program space to educate and train inmates with the ultimate goal of reducing recidivism.
L.R. Kimball provided architecture; interior design; landscape architecture; and mechanical, electrical, plumbing/fire protection, structural, site/civil, and geotechnical engineering services for the Ontario County Jail project.
