Georgian Court, Dorothy Marron University Community Chapel
Part of a larger design effort that included two new residence halls, The Dorothy Marron University Community Chapel at Georgian Court was developed as a large gathering space for worship, campus meetings, and other group functions. The 5,660 square foot Chapel holds 150 people, and serves as a center to enhance the spiritual and academic environment campus. It is located within the residential area as well as within easy walking distance of the campus academic facilities. The University Community Chapel is a central component of the expansion of the Resident Life area on campus.
The chapel is situated adjacent to the Apollo Fountain and Lake Carasaljo: the full glass wall of the north side of the chapel overlooks Founder’s Grove and the Japanese Garden.
The chapel, designed as a light filled house of worship, is well integrated into its natural setting. Various gardens, visible through large glass windows, are used as the altar’s backdrop. On the lake side, a wall of doors opens to allow the congregants access to an outdoor gathering space
