 Penn Avenue Reconstruction Phase I Plan


The recommended and approved Phase I Project will begin at the intersection of Penn Avenue and Mathilda Street and continue to the intersection of Penn Avenue and Evaline Street. This phase includes five (5) total intersections, three (3) of which are signalized - Mathilda Street, Millvale Avenue, and Evaline Street.

The scope of work for this project includes total pavement reconstruction, including the curbs and sidewalks, new ADA curb ramps and detectable warning strips, utility relocations, drainage updates, signing and pavement markings, bus shelters, bicycle racks, street furniture, waste receptacles, new street lighting, streetscaping elements, new traffic signal hardware, pedestrian countdown and audible signals and other safety improvements at the intersections.

For K-12 educators, facility directors and planners, school security for K-12 has become a critical issue as schools across the Country work to ensure they are prepared for any eventuality. Certainly all the appropriate actions and responses have not been formulated, but we can and we must be prepared as professionals to recommit to review and consider measures that can make a difference while permitting schools to retain the look of creative learning environments and not fortresses.
