Shared 9-1-1 Services in Pennsylvania: Regional collaboration as an interim step towards NG9-1-1Shared 9-1-1 Services in Pennsylvania: Regional collaboration as an interim step towards NG9-1-1

In today's economy making smart, effective use of limited funds, while still preparing for NG9-1-1, is critical. PA PSAPs, like many others across the USA, are faced with a dilemma. Many NG9-1-1 technologies (e.g. Text to 9-1-1) are not yet fully available and some states haven't implemented ESInets -- Pennsylvania included. However, vendors who must meet sales deadlines and corporate goals are still aggressively selling NG9-1-1 "solutions" which may offer piece-parts of what will ultimately become "full NG9-1-1." PSAPs that are about to replace their 9-1-1 Call Taking Equipment face some interesting decisions; and more importantly some very interesting opportunities. Using today's IP-enabled technology and potentially cooperating with your neighbors can increase your buying power while providing a more capable, redundant and effective 9-1-1 system -- one that saves you some money now and becomes a useful and important interim step towards NG9-1-1. In PA, regionalization is a concept that has been supported by the State 9-1-1 Office in recent plans. Learn what it is and how to make it work in your region. Download it now..
