What We Do

Narrowbanding Consulting

Narrowbanding is a mandated process that requires experience with radio communications, networks and systems. Because of our deep understanding of those interconnecting areas, agencies can turn to L.R. Kimball for guidance that will help them avoid pitfalls along the road to narrowbanding.

Expertise Counts

L.R. Kimball is one of America’s most respected developers of public safety systems and works daily to install, upgrade and extend communications networks. Working closely with you, L.R. Kimball can:

  • Oversee, complete or evaluate inventory by make, model, serial number and channel capacity
  • Guide the narrowbanding planning process to assure no steps are missed
  • Assemble a customized and comprehensive migration plan, detailing the equipment that needs to be replaced, along with pricing
  • Develop the budget for replacement and reprogramming
  • Plan the logistics of the changeover,
  • Offer day-to-day or as-needed support as the migration is implemented
  • Plan and execute the entire narrowbanding conversion process

We encourage consideration of a number of high-level questions that will help begin the planning and implementation process.

Preparing for FCC Changes Before the Narrowbanding Deadline
Many public safety and business/industrial licensees operate land mobile radio systems in high band frequencies. Recent FCC mandates will soon require all land mobile system licensees operating in these frequencies to reduce their system bandwidth. The mandates begin on January 1, 2011, with full implementation by January 1, 2013. Download this free whitepaper from L.R. Kimball to learn more about the operational issues related to the mandates, and guidelines to help navigate the changes that lie ahead.
