Is Next Generation 9-1-1 Legal in Your State?
A close reading of existing legislation may show that state law actually prohibits NG 9-1-1 operations because of restrictions on sharing 9-1-1 networks. NG 9-1-1 is a shared, multipurpose network, and some state laws may require that 9-1-1 networks be single-purpose, closed systems. Under these circumstances, new legislation would be required to make NG9-1-1 possible.
