Bendigo Airport in
northeastern Dauphin County, PA was transformed from a turf runway
into a modern general aviation facility. The airport is privately
owned by the Gene Bendigo family but is open for public use. The new
facility gives flyers year-round access to the airport, and opens up
more opportunity for economic development in the region. The new
paved runway is 2,325 feet long and 60 feet wide. It is able to
accommodate single and some twin-engine aircraft. Safety overruns,
two taxiway turnarounds, and two access taxiways complete the work
and bring the facility into compliance with all Federal Aviation
Agency (FAA) standards. Runway lighting will be added in the future
to further expand the use of the facility.
