L.R. Kimball was selected as a subcontractor to the University of Pittsburgh Diabetes Institute (UPDI) for a medical GIS project in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Intended to provide the public health community with another tool to enhance the understanding of factors that may influence diabetes cases, the project uses GIS to investigate patterns of diabetes prevalence. The findings will help identify risk factors for diabetes and related complications in rural regions.

Achieving interoperable communications requires more than just updated hardware and technology

In recent weeks, a number of public safety groups have debated how far public safety radio interoperability has come since 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina. Earlier this decade these tragic events tested the ability of first responders and public safety to communicate during a crisis.
